MKTG 3345 week 9- Referral Spam

A shady tactic spammers use to draw attention and traffic to their own sites through your analytics account is known as referral spam. This type of spam is unique in that it is usually only visible through the web analytics dashboard to the website administrator. Referral spam is not only annoying, but it can actually mess up your analytics data. For a small site, the damage can be more significant as the spam referral traffic can easily suffocate legitimate traffic making marketing analysis more difficult.

The two types of referrer spambots include:
        *Crawler Referrer Spam
        *Ghost Spam

Ultimately, the goal is to prevent as much spam as possible from all angles. While preventing all spam is nearly impossible, taking the necessary steps/precautions to eliminate the likelihood of different spam can help protect yourself and your site to avoid an inaccurate analytics report.
